I should mention a few things that have been known in many cases throughout time to actually bring on negative forces and/or spirits. Below is a small list of dangerous things and ways of "playing with fire" so to speak when involving the supernatural.
Ouija Board ~ A divination board used to contact the spirit realm. This is a doorway, not a telephone. Don't play with it.
Automatic Writing ~ Channeling spirits by way of a medium through writing without an actual concious thought or decision. This has been known to bring on possession.
Witchcraft ~ An occult practice quite often thought to be used solely for good, or "white magick". Many occult practices involve summoning the spirits of gods or goddesses to perform magical workings for the conjurer. This is EXTREMELY dangerous!! Spirits are not bound to obey us at all, no matter what. And calling upon spirits carries the great danger of backfiring when the wrong spirits show up. This has led to extreme illnesses, insanity, demonic possession, and in some cases even death has occurred. NEVER assume you can gain control of any spirit force or entity. Our rules are not Their rules.
Negative Thinking ~ Yes, believe it or not, simply the way you think and the thoughts and feelings that you allow into your mind day after day can have a great effect on the type of energy that surrounds you. If you are often in a negative mood, such as depressed or angry, the constant buildup of these emotions can gain the ability to manifest into energy powerful enough to effect other things around you. There is great value in living a healthy life and keeping a healthy mind.
